J. Ivy (born James Ivy Jr. July 16, 1975) is an American poet, spoken word artist, and musician hailing from Chicago, Illinois. He rose to prominence following his 2003 Grammy Award win for Best Rap Song for co-writing and performing on Kanye West’s “Never Let Me Down,” a track deeply rooted in Ivy’s poem “A Letter to Myself.”

Beyond this landmark collaboration, J. Ivy has released several solo projects including the albums *The Poet's Pen* (2005) and *Left Hand Path* (2018). His style blends soulful instrumentation with intensely personal and often spiritually-focused spoken word poetry, frequently addressing themes of love, loss, faith, and self-discovery.

He’s collaborated with artists like Jay-Z, Common, and Erykah Badu, further solidifying his influence within the hip-hop and neo-soul communities. More recently, J. Ivy gained renewed attention for his viral "On & On" freestyle series on social media during the pandemic, showcasing his continued lyrical prowess and resonating with a new generation.
