Experience Claude Salmieri

Claude Salmieri (born 1958) is a French composer and sound artist renowned for his pioneering work in spectral music and computer-assisted composition. Initially studying with Gérard Grisey at the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM) in Paris during the 1980s, Salmieri became a central figure in the development of spectralism – a compositional technique analyzing the acoustic spectrum of sound as its basis.

His compositions, often lengthy and meticulously crafted, explore timbre, resonance, and the perception of sound through detailed harmonic analysis. Key works include *Répons* (a piece co-authored with Grisey), *Drifts*, and *Internal Time*. He frequently utilizes real-time signal processing and algorithmic composition tools to create immersive sonic experiences.

Salmieri has held teaching positions at several prestigious institutions including IRCAM itself, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. His influence extends beyond composition; he’s significantly contributed to research in psychoacoustics and computational musicology. He continues to compose and explore the boundaries of sonic possibility, solidifying his position as a leading figure in contemporary music.
