Jazz Concerts in Berkeley

Experience Wynton Marsalis live on February 19th

Wynton Marsalis is scheduled to perform at Zellerbach Hall, located on the University of California, Berkeley campus, on February 19, 2027. Marsalis is a trumpeter, composer, and educator primarily known for his mastery of jazz. His musical style encompasses a broad range within the genre, deeply rooted in the traditions of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker while also incorporating elements of classical music and exploring contemporary compositions. He is a leading advocate for jazz as a historically significant art form and has been instrumental in preserving and promoting its legacy.

Zellerbach Hall opened in 1967 as part of the UC Berkeley campus’s efforts to expand arts programming. Designed by architect Wurster, Bernardi & Emmons, it is a prominent example of Brutalist architecture. The hall has hosted a diverse array of performances over its history, including dance, theater, music (spanning classical to contemporary), and spoken word events. It’s known for its flexible space accommodating various staging configurations and its role as a venue for both established artists and emerging talent. The hall underwent significant renovations completed in 2018 to improve accessibility and enhance the audience experience while preserving its architectural integrity.
