The Howard Assembly Room is located within Leeds Grand Theatre, originally built in 1878 as the Grand Theatre and Opera House. The Assembly Room itself was not part of the original 19th-century design; it was created during a major refurbishment completed in 2007. This space was formerly the theatre’s gas retort house and coal store, transformed into an intimate 300-seat performance venue. The design deliberately retains some industrial features, creating a unique atmosphere distinct from traditional concert halls. It's now recognized for its acoustic qualities and hosts a diverse programme including classical, contemporary, and world music performances, alongside talks and film screenings.
