The Brigantes Orchestra will perform a concert on June 26, 2027, within the architectural space of Sheffield Cathedral, officially The Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Paul. The Brigantes Orchestra is a chamber orchestra specialising in historically informed performance practice, focusing on music from the medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. They aim to recreate the sound worlds of these eras using period instruments or modern instruments tuned to historical pitches, and employing performance techniques reflective of the time.

Sheffield Cathedral’s origins trace back to the late 12th century, though the current building represents numerous phases of construction and renovation over centuries. Originally a parish church dedicated to St Peter, it wasn’t elevated to cathedral status until 1914, becoming the seat of the Bishop of Sheffield within the Diocese of Sheffield. Significant alterations occurred in the 15th and 16th centuries, and a major Victorian restoration led by George Gilbert Scott Jr. in the late 19th century largely shaped its present appearance. The Cathedral features notable stained glass windows and a substantial organ. Its structure incorporates both Early English and Perpendicular Gothic styles, reflecting its long history and evolving architectural influences.
