Tortoise, the Chicago-based instrumental band, is scheduled to perform at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts on June 30, 2026. Known for their pioneering role in post-rock, Tortoise blends elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and minimalist composition. Formed in 1990, the group avoids traditional rock structures, instead focusing on layered textures, intricate rhythms, and extended instrumental pieces. Their sound often incorporates vibraphone, marimba, and a variety of percussion instruments alongside more conventional band setups. They have released albums on influential labels such as Thrill Jockey.

The Sinclair opened in February 2012 and is a music venue and cinema located in Harvard Square. Originally a Masonic building constructed in 1903, it underwent significant renovation to become a performance space while retaining many of its original architectural features. The venue is known for its intimate setting with a capacity of approximately 525 standing or 350 seated. It regularly hosts a diverse range of musical acts spanning indie rock, electronic music, and experimental genres – aligning with Tortoise’s established aesthetic.
