The band, originally formed in 1999 by Kevin Barnes, is known for its eclectic and evolving musical style. Initially rooted in lo-fi indie pop, of Montreal’s sound has incorporated elements of psychedelic rock, glam rock, and electronica over the course of numerous albums. Lyrically, their work often explores themes of love, loss, and introspection with a frequently surreal and metaphorical approach. The band has released thirteen studio albums to date, gaining a reputation for elaborate stage shows and constantly reinventing their aesthetic.

The Sinclair opened in February 2012 as a combined music venue and cinema. Located in Harvard Square, it was conceived by Tim Sheehan and Tom Gregetory as an independent space aiming to offer a more intimate concert experience than larger arenas. The venue’s design incorporates Art Deco influences and features a main room with a capacity of approximately 525 standing or 350 seated attendees. It regularly hosts both established and emerging artists across various genres alongside independent film screenings. The Sinclair is also known for its full food and beverage service available throughout the venue during events.
