Tõnu Kaljuste will perform at Kultuurikatel in Tallinn, Estonia on June 30, 2026. Kaljuste is a highly regarded Estonian composer and choral conductor known for his minimalist and often spiritual compositions. His work frequently incorporates elements of Gregorian chant, contemporary classical music, and influences from Estonian folk music traditions, characterized by spacious harmonies and a meditative quality. He’s particularly celebrated for his contributions to the development of the “tintinnabuli” style alongside Arvo Pärt.
Kultuurikatel, historically the Tallinn Boiler Hall (Tallinna Katel), is a significant industrial heritage site repurposed as a cultural center. Originally built as part of Tallinn’s central heating system in 1909-1910, it provided heat to the city for nearly a century before ceasing operation in 2000. The building underwent extensive renovation and reopened as Kultuurikatel in 2007. It now functions as a versatile venue hosting concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and other events. Its architecture retains many original industrial features – large metal structures and imposing scale – creating a unique atmosphere that blends historical context with contemporary cultural use.
