Little Island is a public park in the Hudson River near Chelsea, Manhattan, New York City. Opened in May 2021, the park is built on 132 tulip-shaped concrete piles and features undulating landscape elements designed by Heatherwick Studio. Originally conceived as Pier 55, the project faced numerous delays and funding challenges during its development. The design intentionally creates varied microclimates and performance spaces intended to foster both natural growth and artistic expression. It’s intended as a unique public space dedicated to arts & culture programming alongside recreational use. The park’s distinctive architecture aims to provide an immersive experience connecting visitors with the surrounding river environment.
