Little Island, located in Hudson River Park at Pier 55 in Manhattan, New York City, is a unique public park built on a series of tulip-shaped concrete piles rising from the river. Originally conceived by Diana Rosenfeld and designed by Heatherwick Studio, the project faced numerous developmental challenges before opening in May 2021. The structure was funded primarily through donations from Barry Diller and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation. It features a naturalistic landscape with walking paths, performance spaces, and seating areas designed to offer views of the city skyline and the Hudson River. The venue regularly hosts performances across various genres, aiming to provide accessible arts programming within a distinctive architectural setting.
