Experience The Westerlies live on July 19th

The Westerlies will perform at Stanford Jazz Workshop on July 19, 2026. The Westerlies are a brass quartet – two trumpets and two trombones – known for their blend of contemporary classical, jazz, and American roots music. Their compositions frequently incorporate close harmony, improvisation, and a distinctive sonic palette achieved through careful voicing and dynamic control. They’ve gained recognition for commissioning new works and exploring unusual repertoire alongside original pieces.

Stanford Jazz Workshop has a long history of providing jazz education and performance opportunities. Founded in 1990 by Jim Pugh, it began as a summer jazz camp for high school students and has expanded to encompass year-round programs for all ages and skill levels. The workshop is dedicated to fostering creativity, improvisation, and appreciation for jazz through intensive workshops led by renowned musicians. It regularly hosts performances by established artists alongside student ensembles. The workshop’s location on the Stanford University campus provides access to excellent facilities and contributes to its educational focus. It aims to build community through shared musical experiences and promote the continuation of the jazz tradition.
