SWR Vokalensemble, the vocal ensemble of the Südwestrundfunk (Southwest Broadcasting) radio station, will perform at the Rosengarten in Mannheim on July 20, 2026. The ensemble is renowned for its interpretations of a cappella music spanning from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary compositions. Their repertoire frequently includes both sacred and secular works, showcasing a commitment to diverse choral traditions and often featuring lesser-known composers alongside established masters. They are known for their precise intonation, blend, and expressive phrasing.

The Rosengarten, meaning “rose garden”, is a baroque garden located in Mannheim’s city centre. Originally created between 1705 and 1720 for Electoral Palatine Johann Wilhelm at his Mannheim residence, it is considered one of Germany’s most important baroque gardens. Heavily damaged during World War II, it underwent extensive reconstruction based on historical plans, reopening in 1952. The garden’s design emphasizes symmetrical layouts with parterres – ornamental, geometrically shaped flowerbeds – gravel paths, sculptures and water features. It serves as a significant historical landmark and a popular public space for events and recreation within the city.
