Steven Bernstein is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger known for his work spanning jazz, blues, klezmer, and rock. He frequently utilizes a rotating ensemble of musicians—often under names like Spanish Fly or Diaspora—to explore diverse musical traditions with a focus on reinterpretation and improvisation. His arrangements often feature unexpected instrumentation and a playful approach to genre boundaries. Bernstein has collaborated with artists including Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, and Levon Helm himself.

The performance is scheduled at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York on November 28, 2026. The studio was established by the late Levon Helm, drummer and vocalist for The Band, as a creative space for musicians. Originally Barn A at Helm’s home property, it evolved from informal jam sessions amongst friends into a fully functional recording studio and performance venue following Helm’s successful solo career resurgence in the 2000s.

The studio maintains a deliberately intimate atmosphere; it's known for its warm acoustics and regular “Midnight Rambles” – concerts filmed and recorded in a living room setting.
