Sjoerd van Eijck, a Dutch composer and performer, will present a concert at Amare in The Hague on December 12, 2026. Van Eijck’s work frequently centers around the prepared piano – a piano with objects placed on or between the strings to alter the sound – and often incorporates extended techniques. His compositions explore the sonic possibilities of this instrument, resulting in music described as atmospheric, minimalist, and textural, drawing influences from contemporary classical music and sound art. He often combines acoustic sounds with electronic processing and field recordings.

Amare is The Hague’s new city palace for the performing arts, officially opened in September 2022. It houses the Residentie Orkest (The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra), Nederlands Dans Theater (Netherlands Dance Theatre), and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. The building itself occupies a prominent location on the Spuiplein, a historically significant square in the city center. Its construction involved integrating parts of the former Stadsschouwburg (city theatre) facade into a modern architectural design by Mecanoo architects.
