Hill Auditorium, located on the central campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, is a prominent performance venue with a rich history. Completed in 1913, it was designed by Albert Kahn as a gift from Arthur Hill and his wife, Lewis. The auditorium is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, stemming from its specific architectural design intended to enhance unamplified sound. It’s primarily used for large-scale musical performances including orchestral concerts, choral events, and recitals; it also hosts lectures and other university ceremonies. The venue’s interior features Italian Renaissance-style detailing and boasts a substantial pipe organ – one of the largest university organs in the United States – which is frequently utilized in performances. Hill Auditorium is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
