Experience Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden live on May 31st

Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, one of the world’s oldest and most esteemed orchestras, will perform at the Semperoper Dresden on May 31, 2027. The orchestra is renowned for its rich, warm string sound and a historically informed performance practice, deeply rooted in the Central European tradition. It has a particularly strong association with the works of Richard Strauss, Carl Maria von Weber, and Richard Wagner, having premiered numerous compositions by these masters. Its style balances fidelity to score with expressive phrasing and a characteristic tonal color.

The Semperoper itself holds significant cultural importance. Originally opened in 1841, it was designed by architect Gottfried Semper and quickly became a symbol of Dresden’s artistic life. The original building was destroyed twice – once by fire in 1869 and again during the bombing of Dresden in World War II – but was faithfully reconstructed each time, reflecting the city’s resilience. The current building dates from 1985, built on the site of its predecessors. Known for its excellent acoustics and opulent interiors, the Semperoper is considered one of Europe’s leading opera houses and a prominent concert venue.
