Experience Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden live on January 17th
Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, one of the world’s oldest and most esteemed orchestras, will perform at the Semperoper Dresden on January 17, 2027. The orchestra is renowned for its rich, warm tonal quality and a historically informed performance practice deeply rooted in the Central European tradition. While capable of performing music from all eras, it maintains a particularly strong association with the works of Richard Strauss, Carl Maria von Weber, and Richard Wagner – composers with significant ties to Dresden’s musical history.
The Semperoper itself holds a prominent place in operatic history. Originally opened in 1841, it was designed by architect Gottfried Semper and quickly became known for its exceptional acoustics and innovative stage technology. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1945 during the bombing of Dresden in World War II. It was meticulously reconstructed and reopened in 1985, faithfully restoring its original appearance and continuing its legacy as a leading opera house. The building's architectural style blends Renaissance and Baroque elements. Throughout its history, the Semperoper has hosted premieres of numerous significant operas and fostered close relationships with many celebrated conductors and singers.
