Rudolf Buchbinder will perform at the Semperoper Dresden on May 16, 2027. Buchbinder is internationally recognized for his interpretations of the Viennese Classical repertoire, particularly the works of Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and Brahms. His playing is often described as possessing a profound intellectual depth combined with a warm, lyrical tone, and he is known for his meticulous attention to structure and phrasing. He frequently performs complete Beethoven sonata cycles and has a long-standing commitment to exploring the composer’s intentions through scholarly research alongside performance practice.

The Semperoper, meaning “Always Opera,” holds a significant place in operatic history. The current building, opened in 1878, is actually the third theatre to bear the name; the first two were lost to fire. Designed by Gottfried Semper, it’s renowned for its Italian Renaissance-style architecture and exceptional acoustics. It has been home to numerous celebrated singers and conductors throughout its history and remains one of Germany’s leading opera houses. The building underwent extensive renovations completed in 1988 after damage sustained during World War II, restoring much of its original splendor while incorporating modern technical advancements.
