Heinz Hall, originally known as the Loew’s Penn Theatre, opened in 1924 as a lavish movie palace during the height of the atmospheric theatre movement. Facing financial difficulties in the 1960s, the theater was saved from demolition through a public fundraising campaign led by the Pittsburgh Symphony Society.
