RTÉ Concert Orchestra is Ireland’s national orchestra, renowned for its diverse repertoire spanning classical compositions, film scores, and popular music arrangements. The orchestra frequently collaborates with Irish and international artists across genres, maintaining a commitment to both established works and contemporary pieces. It serves a broad audience through live performances, broadcasts on RTÉ radio, and educational initiatives.
The National Concert Hall (NCH) in Dublin opened in 1986, though its origins trace back to the University Church of St. Stephen’s Green, constructed in 1873-77 by architect Thomas Newenham Deane. Originally a place of worship, the building underwent significant reconstruction in the 1980s to transform it into a dedicated concert venue. This renovation preserved the church’s architectural heritage while incorporating state-of-the-art acoustic design.
The NCH is now Ireland's premier music venue, hosting a wide range of performances including classical music, jazz, contemporary and world music events. Its main auditorium, the Main Hall, is particularly noted for its acoustics and ornate Victorian Gothic Revival interior. The venue plays a central role in Ireland’s cultural landscape and supports both established and emerging musical talent.
