Rolf Lislevand, a Norwegian lute virtuoso and ensemble leader, will perform at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on November 1st, 2026. Lislevand is renowned for his historically informed performances of early music, particularly from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. His interpretations focus on recreating the sound world of these eras, often employing original or meticulously reconstructed instruments alongside detailed research into performance practices. He frequently explores the music of composers such as John Dowland, Francesco da Milano, and Sylvius Leopold Weiss, but also delves into lesser-known repertoire. Performances typically feature a blend of solo lute works and ensemble pieces, showcasing a dynamic range from intimate reflection to vibrant virtuosity.
The National Concert Hall itself opened in 1981, built on the site of the former University Examination Hall. It is Ireland’s premier music venue and national cultural resource, hosting a diverse programme encompassing classical music, jazz, contemporary and world music. Designed by Robin Walker and partners, the main auditorium boasts exceptional acoustics and is known for its horseshoe-shaped design inspired by the Musikverein in Vienna. The hall plays a significant role in supporting Irish musical talent while also attracting internationally acclaimed artists and orchestras.
