RTÉ Concert Orchestra is Ireland’s national orchestra, known for its diverse repertoire spanning classical music, light classics, film scores, and popular contemporary works. The ensemble frequently collaborates with Irish and international artists across various genres, maintaining a commitment to both established masterpieces and new compositions. They are a prominent force in Irish musical life, broadcast regularly on RTÉ radio and television.
The National Concert Hall (NCH) in Dublin opened in 1981, though its origins trace back to the University Concert Hall established in 1882. Originally built as the home of the Dublin International Exhibition, the current building represents a significant redevelopment of the original Victorian structure. It’s recognised as Ireland’s premier concert venue and a landmark building on Earlsfort Terrace.
The NCH boasts two primary performance spaces: the Main Hall, renowned for its acoustics and capacity of approximately 2,800, and the smaller Studio Theatre which hosts more intimate performances. Throughout its history, the hall has welcomed internationally acclaimed orchestras, soloists and ensembles. It serves not only as a performance space but also as a hub for music education and outreach programmes within the community.
