Experience Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra live on December 2nd
Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is renowned for its interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire, with a particular strength in the works of Scandinavian composers. The orchestra maintains a commitment to a broad range of musical expression, frequently commissioning new pieces alongside performing established masterpieces. Its sound is often described as possessing clarity and warmth, reflecting a long tradition of orchestral discipline.
Konserthuset Stockholm, the orchestra’s home, opened in 1926 and is considered one of Sweden’s most important concert halls. Designed by Ivar Tengbom, it exemplifies Swedish Modernism with its brick exterior and carefully considered acoustics. The hall was specifically built to address shortcomings in previous venues regarding sound quality; its design incorporated principles developed by Sabin and Eyring to optimize reverberation and clarity.
The building also houses the famed “Blue Hall”, known for its use as the banquet hall following the Nobel Prize award ceremony each December. Throughout its history, Konserthuset has hosted numerous internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists, solidifying its reputation as a premier musical venue. The hall underwent significant renovation in the early 2000s to further enhance its acoustic properties and facilities.
