Experience Ravi Coltrane live on September 19th
Ravi Coltrane, son of jazz saxophone legend John Coltrane and pianist Alice Coltrane, will perform at The UC Theatre in Berkeley, California on September 19, 2026. His musical style is deeply rooted in post-bop and hard bop traditions, yet incorporates elements of avant-garde jazz, often characterized by intensely lyrical saxophone playing and explorations of harmonic complexity. He frequently leads ensembles featuring both established and emerging musicians, emphasizing improvisation within structured arrangements. Throughout his career, Coltrane has released albums on labels including Blue Note and Impulse!, collaborating with artists like Carlos Santana and Joe Henderson’s estate.
The UC Theatre originally opened in 1917 as a venue for vaudeville and silent films. Throughout its history, it transitioned through various uses including a cinema showcasing both mainstream and independent films. In 2015, following a significant renovation led by the Berkeley Arts Council, it reopened as a fully-fledged live performance venue dedicated to music and film. The theatre boasts restored architectural details alongside modern sound and lighting systems. It is now operated as a non-profit organization committed to presenting diverse programming reflective of the Bay Area community.
