Experience Protomartyr live on November 11th
Protomartyr, a Detroit-based post-punk band formed in 2010, will be performing at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia on November 11, 2026. Their music is generally characterized by its stark, minimalist arrangements, often featuring driving basslines, angular guitar work, and Joe Casey’s distinctive, spoken-word vocal delivery. Lyrically, Protomartyr frequently explores themes of urban decay, societal anxieties, and existential dread with a darkly sardonic tone. They have released several critically acclaimed albums including *Captured in Contradiction*, *The Agent Intellect*, and *For Immediate Release*.
The First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia has a long and significant history dating back to 1786. Originally founded as a liberal religious congregation embracing reason and individual conscience, it played a prominent role in social reform movements throughout the 19th and 20th centuries – particularly abolitionism and women's suffrage. The current church building at 215 South 15th Street was constructed between 1832-1833 in a Greek Revival style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
