Protomartyr is a Detroit-based post-punk band formed in 2010, known for their stark, minimalist sound and intensely focused lyrical content. Their music blends elements of post-punk, noise rock, and art-punk, often characterized by Joe Casey’s distinctive, spoken-word vocal delivery and the band’s driving, angular instrumentation. Protomartyr has released several critically acclaimed albums including *Captured in Contradiction* (2014) and *For Immediate Release* (2020).

Cat'S Cradle, the venue hosting the performance, is a long-standing independent music club located in Carrboro, North Carolina – frequently associated with Durham due to its proximity. Established in 1977 by Bill Rodriguez, it quickly became a vital hub for both local and touring acts across various genres. The venue has hosted numerous influential artists throughout its history, spanning from R.E.M. and Nirvana early in their careers to contemporary indie and alternative musicians. Cat’s Cradle operates across multiple room sizes – the “Main Room” where Protomartyr is scheduled to play being the largest – allowing it to accommodate both intimate performances and larger touring shows.
