Experience The Mountain Goats live on August 22nd
The Mountain Goats are scheduled to perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) in Durham, North Carolina on August 22, 2026. The band, led by John Darnielle, is known for its prolific output and primarily indie folk, indie rock, and lo-fi aesthetic. Initially recording music using only a Panasonic boombox and cassette tapes, their sound has evolved over a career spanning decades to incorporate fuller band arrangements while retaining lyrical depth and emotional resonance. Recurring themes in their songwriting include isolation, faith, addiction, and American life.
DPAC opened in 2008 as a public-private partnership between the City of Durham and Duke University. It serves as the largest performing arts center in the Triangle region of North Carolina. The venue hosts a wide variety of performances including Broadway shows, concerts, comedy acts, dance performances and other events. DPAC’s architecture features a modern design with two performance spaces: the 2,700-seat main theater – where The Mountain Goats will perform – and a smaller studio theater. The center aims to contribute to the cultural vibrancy of Durham and attract national touring productions.
