Classical Concerts in Mondsee

Experience Pēteris Vasks live on August 30th

On August 30, 2026, a concert featuring the works of Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks will take place at Schloss Mondsee in Mondsee, Austria. Vasks’s musical style is often described as deeply spiritual and intensely expressive, rooted in the Latvian choral tradition and incorporating elements of minimalism and post-modernism. His compositions frequently explore themes of nature, faith, and human suffering, often utilizing extended techniques for string instruments and incorporating folk melodies. He is known for a distinctive harmonic language that blends tonality with dissonance.

Schloss Mondsee, a baroque palace located on the northern shore of Lake Mondsee in the Salzkammergut region of Austria, has a history stretching back to the 12th century. Originally a Roman fort, it was rebuilt as a castle in the early 16th century by the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. The palace underwent significant baroque restructuring in the 18th century under Archbishop Firmian. Throughout its history, Schloss Mondsee served various administrative functions for the Archbishopric of Salzburg and later became a district court before being repurposed for cultural events and tourism.
