Experience Paul Lewis live on September 27th
Paul Lewis is a British pianist internationally recognised for his interpretations of the central Austro-German repertoire, particularly Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. His playing is often described as possessing a remarkable clarity, intellectual depth, and emotional restraint, focusing on structural understanding and nuanced phrasing rather than overt virtuosity. He is known for his complete sonata cycles of both Beethoven and Schubert, presented globally to critical acclaim.
The Tung Auditorium is a concert hall located within the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall complex. Opened in 2023 following a significant refurbishment project funded by the Tung family, it represents a substantial investment in Liverpool’s cultural infrastructure. Designed by Ian Simpson Architects, the auditorium aims to provide exceptional acoustics and an intimate setting for chamber music and smaller orchestral performances – a departure from the larger capacity of the adjacent main hall. The design incorporates adjustable acoustic elements allowing for flexibility in sound projection. It's named in recognition of the philanthropic support received from Dr Jonathan & Mrs Gloria Tung. The venue seeks to establish itself as a premier destination for classical music within the North West of England and beyond.
