Andrew Manze will perform at Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool on October 29, 2026. Manze is a British violinist and conductor renowned for his historically informed performances of Baroque and Classical period music. His interpretations are frequently characterized by energetic phrasing, a focus on clarity of articulation, and a willingness to explore unconventional approaches to ornamentation and tempo, often drawing from research into performance practices of the composers’ time. He frequently performs both as a soloist and leading ensembles from the violin, and increasingly conducts orchestras in repertoire spanning from Purcell to Brahms.
Philharmonic Hall opened in 1849 as part of the Liverpool Philharmonic Society, making it one of the oldest concert halls in the United Kingdom still operating continuously. Originally designed by Thomas Allom, significant renovations occurred in 1939-1940 under Herbert J. Rowse which substantially altered the hall’s interior and acoustics. It is celebrated for its warm acoustic environment and intimate atmosphere; seating approximately 1,668 people. The hall has hosted numerous internationally acclaimed musicians throughout its history and remains a central venue for classical music within Liverpool and the broader North West region. The building is Grade II listed, recognising its architectural and historical importance.
