On February 14, 2027, the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden will present a concert featuring works by Paul Hindemith. Hindemith (1895-1963) was a significant German composer, violist, teacher and music theorist. His musical style is often described as *Gebrauchsmusik* – “music for use” – reflecting his belief in music serving a practical purpose and integrating elements of folk music and jazz alongside traditional compositional techniques. He moved away from late-Romantic expressionism towards a more objective, contrapuntal approach, frequently employing polyphony and dissonance resolved within a tonal framework. While initially associated with the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) movement, his style evolved throughout his career.

The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden boasts a rich history dating back to 1897, though its origins trace to earlier theatrical performances in the city. The current main building opened in 1902 and has undergone several renovations, most recently a comprehensive refurbishment completed in 2015. It functions as a multi-disciplinary performing arts institution encompassing opera, ballet, drama, and concerts.
