Paquito D’Rivera is scheduled to perform at Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington on August 22, 2026. D’Rivera is a Cuban-born American saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer. His musical style is characterized by a virtuosic blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz improvisation, and classical influences. He frequently incorporates elements of traditional Cuban music – son, mambo, and danzón – into his compositions and performances, alongside bebop and other jazz idioms. A prolific recording artist and educator, D’Rivera has received numerous accolades including multiple Grammy Awards and a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Fellowship.

Esther Short Park serves as Vancouver’s oldest public park, established in 1867. Named after Esther Short, a pioneer woman who arrived in the area in 1845 with her husband Amos Short, the park initially functioned as a community gathering space and fairgrounds. Over its history it has undergone several renovations while maintaining its central role within the city. Today it hosts a variety of events throughout the year including concerts, farmers markets and festivals.
