The Roman Theatre of Verona (Teatro Romano) is an ancient Roman structure dating back to the 1st century AD. Originally constructed during the reign of Augustus, it could accommodate an estimated 13,000 spectators and was used for dramatic performances and gladiatorial contests. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the theatre fell into disuse and was partially dismantled; however, significant portions remain remarkably well-preserved.
In the 20th century, efforts were made to restore the theatre and repurpose it as a venue for summer performances. Today it primarily hosts opera, concerts, and theatrical productions during the warmer months, providing a unique historical backdrop for artistic events. The acoustics within the ancient structure are considered excellent for musical performances.
