Experience Ottavio Dantone live on January 25th
Ottavio Dantone, an Italian harpsichordist, organist, and conductor, is recognized for his historically informed performance practice, particularly within Baroque and early Classical repertoire. His musical approach emphasizes detailed research into performance conventions of the 17th and 18th centuries, resulting in interpretations characterized by ornamentation, nuanced phrasing, and a focus on the rhetorical aspects of the music. He frequently directs ensembles from the keyboard, bringing a dynamic energy to performances.
Theater an der Wien – Hölle (literally “Hell”), located in Vienna’s 4th district, possesses a complex history. Originally constructed as the Carlstheater in 1807 by Ferdinand Raimund’s father, it quickly became a significant venue for *Singspiel* (German opera with spoken dialogue) and popular theatre. Following a fire in 1918, it was rebuilt and renamed Theater an der Wien. During the Nazi era it was used as a storage facility. Post-war reconstruction saw it repurposed again; for a period it functioned as a cinema before reverting to theatrical use.
