The complex includes a baroque abbey church begun in 1680, noted for its extensive fresco program by Johann Michael Rottmayr. Throughout its history, the monastery has been a center for learning and culture; it maintained a renowned boarding school from the 9th century until 1969 and continues to function as an active Benedictine community.
