The band, originally formed in Athens, Georgia in 1999, is known for its eclectic and evolving musical style. Initially rooted in lo-fi indie pop, of Montreal’s sound has incorporated elements of psychedelic pop, glam rock, electronica, and new wave over the course of numerous albums. Lyrically, their work often explores themes of love, loss, and existentialism with a blend of whimsicality and introspection. The band is largely the project of Kevin Barnes, who serves as its primary songwriter and vocalist.

Wonder Ballroom opened in 2003 and has become a prominent independent music venue in Portland's entertainment district. Housed within a historic building dating back to 1913 – originally constructed as a ballroom for dancing – the venue retains much of its original architectural character including high ceilings and ornate detailing. It’s known for hosting a diverse range of musical acts spanning indie rock, electronic music, hip-hop and more; alongside providing space for other events such as weddings and private functions.
