Nobuyuki Tsujii will perform at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan on September 7, 2026. Tsujii is a Japanese pianist noted for his deeply expressive and technically brilliant performances despite being blind since birth. His repertoire spans a wide range, from Romantic composers like Chopin and Rachmaninoff to contemporary works, often characterized by a poetic sensibility and nuanced phrasing. He gained international recognition after winning the joint first prize at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Suntory Hall, inaugurated in 1972, is considered one of the world’s finest concert halls renowned for its exceptional acoustics. Designed by architect Mamoru Takada with acoustic consultation from Yasuhisa Toyota, it was built with a “vineyard” style seating arrangement – surrounding the stage on three sides – to create intimacy between performers and audience. The hall’s construction incorporated extensive research into sound reflection and absorption materials to achieve clarity and warmth. Suntory Hall has hosted numerous internationally acclaimed orchestras and soloists throughout its history, becoming a central venue for classical music in Japan. It is owned by the Suntory beverage company and serves as a key component of their cultural contribution program.
