Five Spot Jazz holds a significant place in the history of American jazz music. Originally opened in 1953 by Joe and Iggy Termini in Greenwich Village, it quickly became renowned as a vital hub for bebop and hard bop musicians. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, the club regularly hosted legendary figures such as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, and Miles Davis – often featuring impromptu late-night jam sessions. While the original club closed in 1971, it was revived in 1988 under new ownership and continues to operate as a dedicated jazz venue committed to showcasing both established artists and emerging talent.
