Musica Alchemica will perform at the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria on February 19, 2027. The ensemble is recognized for its interpretations of early music, specifically focusing on the rediscovery and performance of largely unknown compositions from the 16th to 18th centuries. Their approach blends historical performance practice with a contemporary sensibility, often incorporating improvisation and exploring the connections between music, alchemy, and Renaissance cosmology – hence their name. They frequently utilize period instruments and delve into the expressive nuances of these older repertoires.

The Musikverein, home to the Vienna Philharmonic, holds significant historical and architectural importance. Completed in 1870, it was designed by Hans Hansen and Eduard van der Nüll in a Neo-Renaissance style. The building’s most celebrated feature is the Golden Hall (Goldener Saal), renowned for its exceptional acoustics which are frequently cited as among the best in the world. This acoustic quality stems from its specific dimensions, wood construction, and lack of parallel surfaces.
