Matthew Whitaker is a highly regarded American jazz pianist and organist, known for his prodigious talent and improvisational skills. His musical style blends traditional jazz harmony with gospel, blues, and contemporary influences, often showcasing a virtuosic technique reminiscent of legendary organists like Jimmy Smith while incorporating his own distinct voice. He began gaining widespread recognition as a teenager, performing extensively and releasing critically acclaimed albums demonstrating both his instrumental prowess and compositional abilities.

The Music Center at Strathmore, located in North Bethesda, Maryland, opened in 2003. It serves as a multi-disciplinary arts center and the home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Strathmore and the Strathmore Artist in Residence program. The venue comprises two concert halls: the Concert Hall, seating approximately 1,976, and the smaller, more intimate Music Room at Strathmore. Designed by William Rawn Associates, the building’s architecture incorporates elements reflecting its surrounding natural environment. Strathmore hosts a diverse range of performances including classical music, jazz, world music, and contemporary artists; it also offers educational programs and community outreach initiatives.
