Mao Fujita is a Japanese pianist rapidly gaining international recognition for his insightful and technically assured performances. His repertoire is broad, encompassing works from the Baroque period to contemporary compositions, but he is particularly noted for his interpretations of Chopin, Debussy, and Ravel – often characterized by a delicate touch, nuanced phrasing, and a clear, lyrical quality. Fujita won the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in 2021, solidifying his position as a leading figure in classical music.
The Salle des Combins forms a central venue within the Verbier Festival. Located in the Swiss Alps, the hall opened in 1998 and was specifically designed for chamber music and solo recitals. Its acoustics are highly regarded for their warmth and clarity, fostering an intimate connection between performer and audience. The hall’s construction incorporated significant attention to sound reflection and absorption to optimize the listening experience within its relatively modest size – seating approximately 850 people.
The Verbier Festival itself was founded in 1997 by Martin Engstroem with an emphasis on bringing together established and emerging classical musicians in a picturesque setting; it has become known for its high artistic standards and commitment to musical education through masterclasses.
