Janine Jansen is a Dutch violinist internationally recognized for her compelling interpretations and technical brilliance. Her playing is often described as possessing both refined elegance and passionate intensity, encompassing a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary works. She frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and conductors worldwide, and is known for her insightful phrasing and expressive tone.
The Salle des Combins is the primary concert hall of the Verbier Festival, held annually in the Swiss Alps. Constructed in 1982, it was designed by the Swiss architect Jean-Luc Fischer specifically to provide exceptional acoustics for chamber music and orchestral performances. The hall’s wooden construction and relatively intimate size – seating approximately 850 people – contribute to its renowned sound quality, fostering a close connection between performers and audience.
The Verbier Festival itself was founded in 1993 by Martin Engstroem, initially focusing on chamber music but expanding over time to include orchestral concerts, masterclasses, and outreach programs. The festival attracts world-class musicians each year, establishing Verbier as a significant center for classical music during the summer season. Janine Jansen has been a frequent performer at the Verbier Festival since 2002.
