Les Papillons is a historically informed performance ensemble specializing in 19th-century chamber music, particularly focusing on the salon music of composers like Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Fanny Mendelssohn. Their performances are noted for their use of period instruments and a commitment to stylistic authenticity, aiming to recreate the intimate sound world of the era. The group frequently programs works alongside lesser-known compositions by female composers of the period, contributing to a re-evaluation of musical history.

Theater Basel comprises three venues – Theater, Concert Hall and Stage – and represents a significant cultural institution in Switzerland. Its origins trace back to 1832 with the opening of the Stadttheater, though the current main building dates largely from a major reconstruction completed in 1977 designed by architects Busnelli, Colombo & Durisch.
