Leonard Patton will perform at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine on September 24, 2026. Patton is a contemporary American composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work blends elements of experimental rock, jazz improvisation, and electronic music. He has released albums on labels including Kranky and Room40 and frequently collaborates with artists across various genres.
The State Theatre originally opened in 1929 as a movie palace designed by architect Horace C. Peabody. Initially known as the Port Theatre, it showcased both films and vaudeville acts during its early years. The venue underwent several name changes – including the Metropolitan Theatre – before becoming the State Theatre in 1938. Throughout its history, the State Theatre has hosted a diverse range of performers, from big band orchestras to contemporary musicians. Significant renovations occurred in 1997 restoring many of its original Art Deco features while updating technical capabilities for live performances. It currently operates as a prominent concert venue and remains a landmark building within Portland’s downtown area.
