Experience Lawrence Power live on August 8th
Lawrence Power, a British violist recognized for his intensely expressive and technically assured performances, will perform at the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg on August 8, 2026. Power’s interpretations are frequently noted for their depth of colour and a willingness to explore both standard repertoire and contemporary works, often commissioning new pieces for the viola. He is known for a broad range encompassing baroque through modern music.
The Felsenreitschule, translating to “Rock Theatre,” is a unique open-air venue carved directly into the Mönchsberg cliff in Salzburg. Originally constructed in 1926 for the Salzburg Festival as a space to stage ancient Greek dramas, its dramatic setting offers exceptional acoustics. The space was designed by Professor Alexander Popp, utilizing the natural rock formations as integral parts of the stage and auditorium.
Throughout its history, it has hosted diverse performances beyond classical theatre, including operas, concerts, and even during World War II served as a stable for horses. Significant renovations occurred in the 1960s following damage sustained during the war but preserved its original character. The venue remains a central part of the Salzburg Festival program and is renowned for its atmospheric qualities and historical significance.
