On May 30, 2027, the Staatstheater Saarbrücken will present a concert dedicated to the works of Kurt Weill. Weill (1900-1950) was a German composer known for his distinctive blend of jazz-influenced harmonies, cabaret aesthetics, and socially conscious themes. His music frequently incorporates elements of atonality and Gebrauchsmusik – music intended for practical, everyday use – alongside traditional forms. He collaborated extensively with Bertolt Brecht, resulting in landmark works like *The Threepenny Opera* and *Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny*, which exemplify his critical engagement with societal issues. While initially successful in Germany, the rise of Nazism led Weill to emigrate to the United States in 1933 where he composed for Broadway and Hollywood.
