Krakatau, an Indonesian instrumental fusion group, will be performing at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia on July 23, 2026. The band is known for blending Indonesian traditional music – particularly gamelan and pentatonic scales – with jazz, rock, and world music influences. Formed in 1976, Krakatau has been a significant force in popularizing Indonesian musical styles internationally and are recognised for their complex arrangements and virtuosic musicianship.

Federation Square, opened in 2002, is a cultural precinct located in the heart of Melbourne’s central business district. Designed by architects Donald Bates and Peter Corrigan, its distinctive angular architecture has become an iconic landmark. The square was built on the site of former railway yards and aims to be a central meeting place and event space for Melburnians and visitors alike. It hosts a diverse range of events throughout the year including festivals, performances, public celebrations and art installations.

The square incorporates several key buildings including The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia dedicated to Australian art, ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image), and various restaurants and bars.
