Jazz Concerts in Groningen

Experience Kika Sprangers live on October 3rd

Kika Sprangers is a Dutch composer and performer whose work blends contemporary classical music with elements of jazz, improvisation, and electronic soundscapes. Her compositions often feature the harmonium, alongside piano and other instruments, creating atmospheric and emotionally resonant pieces. Sprangers’s music is characterized by its delicate textures, harmonic complexity, and a focus on exploring inner landscapes. She has released several albums to critical acclaim and frequently performs internationally, both solo and in collaborative projects.

The Lutherse Kerk (Lutheran Church) in Groningen is a historic building dating back to 1669. Originally constructed as a clandestine Catholic church – Catholicism was not freely practiced in the Dutch Republic at the time – it was later repurposed for Lutheran worship following changes in religious tolerance. The church’s interior features a relatively simple design typical of post-Reformation churches, with whitewashed walls and a focus on natural light. It is known for its excellent acoustics, making it a favoured venue for musical performances. The building underwent significant restoration in the 20th century to preserve its historical integrity. Today it functions as both a place of worship and a cultural space within the city of Groningen.
