Kazuki Yamada is a Japanese conductor internationally recognised for his insightful interpretations and technical precision, particularly within the Romantic and 20th/21st-century repertoire. His conducting is often described as possessing both clarity and emotional depth, demonstrating a sensitivity to orchestral colour and phrasing. He frequently performs with leading orchestras globally and is currently Principal Conductor of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.
Birmingham Town Hall is a Victorian concert hall situated in Victoria Square, central Birmingham. Opened in 1834, it was designed by Joseph Hansom, famed for his Hansom cab. The building served as a significant civic hub throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, hosting a diverse range of events from political rallies to orchestral performances. Notably, the Hall played host to the first public performance of Edward Elgar’s choral work *The Dream of Gerontius* in 1900.
A major refurbishment completed in 2007 restored many of its original architectural features while upgrading facilities. The hall's acoustic qualities are highly regarded, making it a favoured venue for classical music concerts and choral works.
