Classical Concerts in Birmingham

Experience François Leleux live on October 22nd

François Leleux, a celebrated French oboist, will perform at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham on October 22, 2026. Leleux is internationally recognised for his expressive and technically brilliant playing, frequently performing both as a soloist with major orchestras and in chamber music settings. His style is noted for its lyrical phrasing, warm tone, and a repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works, including a significant focus on 20th and 21st-century compositions written for or inspired by him. He often commissions new works, expanding the oboe’s presence in modern classical music.

The CBSO Centre serves as the primary rehearsal space and smaller concert hall for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO). Originally opened in 1991, it was designed by architect Norman Foster as part of the International Convention Centre complex. The hall is known for its excellent acoustics specifically tailored for orchestral sound, despite its relatively intimate size – seating approximately 450 people. It provides a more immediate and chamber-like experience compared to Symphony Hall, the CBSO’s main performance venue. The Centre frequently hosts chamber concerts, masterclasses, educational events and recordings alongside orchestra rehearsals.
